  1. Karma is action and akarma is no-action. From a dharmik perspective akarma towards one’s duties is always debated.
Akarma is also defined by Karma yoga and Jnana yoga. Akarma is non-doership in karma yoga. Any doership of an action and ownership of the results will bring bondage. Following our swadharma (our inherent tendencies and our placement in life), doing it in the spirit of Yagna and adapting Tyaga when it comes to the results will free us from this bondage.
From the perspective of Jnana yoga, akarma refers to the action less Self beyond every activity. Any one who perceives this action less Self is a Jnani. Our inherent nature is infinitude. We associate with the limited ego and feel bound and helpless. By remaining a witness of all the activities amidst of action we are free.
